Athletic Brewing Secures $50M Investment, Reaching $800M Valuation

Athletic Brewing, the popular nonalcoholic beer brand, is expanding its global presence with a new $50M funding round led by General Atlantic, bringing its valuation to $800M. This follows a previous $50M investment from Keurig Dr Pepper in 2022, which helped drive its rapid growth.

Brewing Success

Athletic Brewing has successfully positioned itself as a leader in the nonalcoholic beer market, with strong demand for its craft beers:

  • Year-to-date sales grew 60% through June.
  • It holds 19% of the nonalcoholic beer market, driving 32% of the category’s growth.
  • Ranked among the top 20 U.S. brewers by volume last year, producing 258K barrels.
  • Expanded production by acquiring a San Diego facility from Ballast Point Brewing, doubling its U.S. output.

The Rise of Moderation

Athletic Brewing wasn’t designed to replace traditional beers but instead caters to the 41% of Americans aiming to reduce alcohol consumption without cutting it out completely. With over 15 varieties, the brand appeals to those seeking a healthier alternative for social and recreational settings.

The Playbook's Take

As more people seek alcohol-free alternatives and organizations like the WHO push for reduced alcohol consumption, Athletic Brewing’s nonalcoholic beers are perfectly positioned to capture a growing market focused on wellness and moderation.
