Christian McCaffrey's while on earth Debuts The CMC Training Shoe

September 4, 2026

The performance footwear and apparel brand debuts most explosive trainer yet.

What Is The CMC?

While on earth just launched The CMC, its most performance-driven trainer yet, co-designed with 49ers running back and while on earth co-founder Christian McCaffrey. It's built for athletes who train explosively and need a shoe that can lock in during hard cuts, absorb load during heavy reps, and hold up across months of use. I've personally been wearing these the last 7 days and am blown away with the quality, comfort, and control.

How The CMC's Design Works

The shoe is built around stability under load. An external heel counter locks the heel in place during explosive movement, while a TPU mid-foot plate minimizes torsion during lateral cuts and dynamic training. An angled heel tab reduces pressure on the Achilles, and a rubberized toe cap adds durability across the toe box and forefoot. Underfoot, a multi-directional rubber outsole holds grip across turf, rubber flooring, and pavement alike.

Why McCaffrey's Input Matters Here

McCaffrey joined while on earth as a co-founder and investor in August 2025 after years with Nike, and The CMC is the first shoe built entirely around his feedback. He wore early versions for over a year before signing off on the final build, testing it through his own training cycles rather than handing off a name for a logo. That shows up in the small details: the heel lock, the Achilles relief, the reinforced toe — all things that come from someone who's actually broken shoes down through repeated explosive training, not just endorsed them.

Where The CMC Is Meant to Be Used

This isn't a shoe built for one lane. The anatomical last and plush foam sockliner make it comfortable enough for all-day wear, while the mid-foot plate and ground-contact outsole make it capable during lateral drills, sprint work, and heavy lifting days. It's built to move between the weight room, the turf, and everywhere in between.

Why It's Built the Way It Is

At a 10mm heel-to-toe drop with a durable nylon upper, The CMC is designed to handle heavy reps and long days without breaking down early. There's no gimmick here, just a stability-first trainer built to survive real training volume. After a week in them, the lockdown through the midfoot and heel is noticeably tighter than most training shoes in this category, and they've held up well through lateral work and lifting sessions alike.

The Bottom Line

Training shoes tend to fall into two camps: too soft for lateral work, or too stiff for comfort. The CMC threads that needle, giving you a locked-in, supportive ride without sacrificing all-day wearability. A week in, it's earned a permanent spot in my training rotation.
