Garmin's newest premium cycling computer lets riders control navigation, stats, and messaging with voice commands — keeping both hands on the bars.
Garmin has unveiled Edge 1060, its newest premium cycling computer, built around a simple shift: cyclists can now control it with their voice. A built-in microphone and speaker let riders pull up stats, reroute, and send messages without taking their hands off the bars — available now at $799.99, with up to 20 hours of battery life in demanding use and 60 hours in battery saver mode.
With a simple "Okay, Garmin," riders can trigger commands like "Report a pothole," "Route me to the closest coffee shop," or "What is my heart rate?" Edge responds by updating the screen, reading back stats, or suggesting a new route. Paired with the Garmin Messenger app and a connected smartphone, cyclists can send and receive voice messages mid-ride, and a digital bike bell lets other riders hear them coming.
Edge 1060 adds a set of routing tools built for real-world riding: Route Options compares paths by time, elevation, and bike type; Route Previews flag distance, traffic, and hazards before departure; Up Ahead surfaces nearby points of interest like coffee shops or restrooms; and Free Flow Routing finds paths with the fewest stops to hold pace during training. Road closure alerts, crowdsourced from other Garmin cyclists, now join existing hazard reports for potholes and obstructions — and riders can log their own hands-free with a voice command.
Performance insights — real-time stamina, power guide, cycling ability, and course demands — are powered by the Garmin Human Performance Lab. Cyclists can build a free, adaptive Garmin Cycling Coach plan, or sync workouts automatically from TrainingPeaks. Pairing a compatible Garmin smartwatch or CIRQA Smart Band adds off-the-bike recovery and health data for a fuller view of cycling fitness, with optional supplementary strength workouts layered into a training plan.
GroupRide detection lets cyclists join a nearby group session automatically, unlocking in-ride messaging, live locations, incident alerts, and in-ride competitions. The workout screen is now interactive, making it easier to preview upcoming steps or zoom through a full session, and the home screen can be customized around the apps and widgets riders use most. In rougher conditions, Edge's reverse charging can top off a Varia light, phone, or other device mid-ride.
Edge 1060 is available now for $799.99, with battery life up to 20 hours in the most demanding use cases and 60 hours in battery saver mode. "Voice control helps riders access all the information they need," said Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, of the device's design goal: keeping cyclists focused and in control from the first mile to the finish.
