It scans your skin, calculates your dose, and delivers the benefits of sunlight in 5 minutes — without the burn risk.
Solius Labs has launched Solius, the first FDA-cleared, over-the-counter personalized UVB light therapy device for home use. It's built to deliver the health benefits of sunlight — safely, efficiently, and on your schedule.
The device scans your unique skin tone and calculates your optimal dose of UVB light. Then it delivers it in a 5-minute session, once a week. No sunburn. No guesswork. No sitting outside hoping you got it right.
It comes at a moment when new research is challenging decades of sun-avoidance advice.
For 30 years, doctors told us one thing: stay out of the sun. Wear sunscreen. Seek shade. Cover up.
And for good reason. Skin cancer is real. Sunburn does damage.
But somewhere along the way, the advice went too far. So we started avoiding the sun altogether. And that decision came with a cost nobody was measuring.
A UK Biobank study tracked outcomes across a massive population. The finding: people who avoided the sun didn't just lower their skin cancer risk. They raised their risk of dying from other causes. By a lot.
Researchers in the Journal of Internal Medicine went even further. They said sun avoidance is a risk factor for death of a similar magnitude as smoking.
Read that again. Same ballpark as cigarettes.
And a 2024 study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute looked at over 62,000 people. It found that lifetime UVB exposure wasn't linked to higher melanoma risk once researchers adjusted for UVA exposure. In the highest UVB exposure group, melanoma rates actually went down.
Turns out not all UV light is the same. UVA is the one tied to higher risk. UVB behaves differently.
UVB light does more than make vitamin D. It's tied to:
So the sun isn't the enemy. The lack of it might be.
Here's the catch. Getting UVB from actual sunlight is messy.
Too little, and you miss the benefits. Too much, and you're back to burn risk and skin damage. The dose depends on your skin tone, the season, your location, the time of day. Almost nobody is getting it right.
This is the problem Solius was built to solve.
A quick rundown on how it works:
It's not more sun. It's the right wavelength, in the right dose, without the tradeoff.
We spent decades being told to fear the sun. The data tells a different story. Sunlight isn't just about vitamin D — it drives real, measurable processes across your whole body. Solius is now available direct to consumer at solius.com. A limited number of Founding Memberships are open to early adopters.
