Walk into a GNC and ask an employee what supplement you should be taking. There's a good chance they've had, in Theo Wiley's words, "two PowerPoint presentations worth of training." Everyone's guessing. The industry runs on generic blends and best guesses dressed up as advice.
Theo Wiley spent the last decade somewhere very different — deep in biotech and gene therapy, working on rare disease and neurodegenerative research. Then he asked a simple question: what if the same precision-medicine tools curing diseases could just as easily build you a supplement?
That question became Myoform.
On this episode of the Playbook HQ Podcast, Myoform founder and CEO Theo Wiley breaks down how a childhood hearing loss diagnosis sent him into genetics in the first place, how a bespoke supplement blend actually gets built from your DNA, and why the company just launched a marketplace to hand out data-matched recommendations to people who aren't ready to go all the way to personalized yet.
Theo's story doesn't start in a lab. It starts with his ears.
He grew up with a form of hearing loss that got progressively worse through childhood. By the time he was twelve or thirteen, he'd lost all hearing in his right ear — a frightening thing for a kid to go through. What followed was eleven years of searching for a real diagnosis, chasing down every channel that might explain what was happening, including a deep look into his own genetics.
That process didn't just give him answers. It gave him a fascination that never really left. He went on to study human biosciences and genetics, then fell into gene therapy work — technology aimed at the root cause of disease rather than the symptoms.
The scale of what he saw stuck with him. The first human genome was sequenced in 2001. Since then, roughly 40,000 clinical research papers have been published connecting genetics to everything from injury risk to sports performance to nutritional needs — and that body of research is on pace to double again in the next three years. Right now, only about 1 in 1,000 people have had their whole genome sequenced. Theo's bet: within five years, that number jumps to nearly 90%.
"It just made sense that, well, why don't we build something that helps action that data in a practical way," he says — not just for people who are sick, but for people trying to get from their current health to their actual ceiling.
He likes to point back to Socrates on this one: it's a shame for a person to grow old without ever seeing the strength and beauty their body was capable of.
Here's the part most supplement companies skip entirely: the data.
Myoform starts every user with a set of baseline questions — lifestyle, nutrition, biometrics, goals — the stuff you can't pull from a blood or genetic test. From there, users get an at-home genetic testing kit shipped to their door. It's saliva-based and non-invasive on purpose, because most people, understandably, don't want to prick a finger or fast for 16 hours to get tested.
Once the sample hits Myoform's lab, whole-genome sequencing takes two to four weeks — it's an intensive process, there's no shortcutting it. From there, a personalized supplement blend ships within 48 hours. Users can then layer in blood biomarkers and wearable data to sharpen the picture further, and the formula evolves monthly as new data comes in.
It's a closed loop by design: measure, formulate, re-measure, reformulate. The same magnesium glycinate dose that works for one person might do nothing — or too much — for someone else, and Theo's whole thesis is that most people have never actually had that distinction made for them.
"Most of us are taking stuff blind," he says. "We go into a GNC, or we shop online, and we get told by someone what we should be focusing on and taking. We revolt against that principle."
Myoform isn't chasing everyone right out of the gate. Right now, it's built for what Theo calls the hybrid athlete — people already tracking their own data, already spending money to improve performance, already the kind of person signed up for a HYROX or a CrossFit competition.
"Anyone with a Whoop," he jokes, is basically the target customer today.
That's the beachhead, not the ceiling. Theo sees the platform expanding over the next three to five years toward a much broader audience — people who just want to feel a little better day to day, or keep up with their kids and grandkids a while longer. But early adopters tend to be the highly motivated, data-curious crowd first, and that's exactly who Myoform is built around right now.
Not everyone who's curious about Myoform is ready to commit to a fully personalized formula — the price point, the process, or just never having tried a supplement before can all be a barrier. So Myoform built a second way in: a curated, in-app marketplace that applies the same biological matching engine to third-party products instead of a bespoke blend.
The marketplace went live July 1, 2026, in both the US and UK. Every product gets scored against a user's actual genetic and biomarker data before it's ever shown to them — a deliberate contrast to standard retail, where shelf placement is driven by distribution deals and marketing budgets, not whether a product fits your biology. Each recommendation comes with the specific markers behind it, so users can see exactly why something's being suggested.
Launch partners are Unmatched Supps in the US — co-founded by Kris Gethin and Doug Miller, built around clinical dosing and third-party testing — and FUNC in the UK, a curated wellness marketplace spanning focus, recovery, performance, and gut health. More partners are expected to follow.
"Every product is scored against a user's own data before it is shown to them," Theo says, "so the recommendation is driven by their biology rather than by who paid for the placement."
And the algorithm isn't just nutritional. It factors in physical traits too — lactate threshold, VO2 max trainability, endurance training response, tissue-specific injury risk — which means recommendations can go beyond supplements entirely: a red light therapy device for someone with elevated inflammation markers, a bracing belt for someone with a genetic predisposition to lower back injury, a training program built around someone's actual physical profile. Telehealth coaching and peptide-related guidance are on the roadmap as the science matures.
It follows Myoform's blood-test upload feature, launched earlier in 2026, which lets users pull results directly from providers like Function Health, Superpower, and Thriva — or their own GP — into the same engine. As Theo puts it: genetics is the blueprint you're born with, blood is how your body's performing right now, and the formulation adjusts as both change.
Ask Theo who inspires him and he doesn't reach for a founder or a VC. He reaches for the data first — because sequencing elite athletes has shown him, again and again, just how much of their performance was written into them from the start.
One name comes up fast: Mathew Fraser, the five-time CrossFit Games champion who came back from a serious injury to dominate the sport afterward. For Theo, Fraser represents something Myoform is built to unlock in everyone — not turning average people into elite athletes, but helping them find their actual ceiling instead of guessing at it through trial and error for years.
The more personal answer is his mother. She went through breast cancer treatment years ago and has now been in remission for roughly 25 years — largely, in Theo's telling, because she built her life around understanding her own risk: no sugar, regular exercise, a clear-eyed relationship with her own biology.
Theo applies the same logic to himself. He carries one copy of the ApoE4 gene variant, which raises his Alzheimer's risk two to four times over baseline. His response isn't panic — it's a daily protocol: consistent sleep, regular exercise, omega-3s, a choline source. "I'm probably at a lower risk than the general population," he says, "as a result of all those things I am doing already. I just understand my biology deeper than probably most people do."

Instead, it opened the door wider — meeting people where they actually are, whether that's a fully bespoke blend or a smarter way to shop for what's already on the shelf.
The bigger bet is a simple one: most people have a performance ceiling they've never actually found, because nobody ever showed them where to look. Theo's building the map.
